With the plethora of superhero movies and television shows being made these days, there are a lot of new fans of the characters. But where to start with some of these characters if a new fan wants to make the leap to comics? Dave and Rachelle have some suggestions! This week they suggest starting point comics for new fans of Captain America, Superman, Iron Man, Wolverine and Wonder Woman.
Also in this episode: Sam Neill is going to be in Thor: Ragnarok! Doctor Strange is going to be in Infinity War! Luke Cage is going to be on Netflix this week! Bucky is going to be in Black Widow! Uh, rather...Bucky is going to appear in the Black Widow comic!
Dave has a list of unrealized super hero projects that we wants to talk about. Things like Superman 2000, Captain America 2099 and Iron Man 2099, Twilight of the Superheroes, and Tom Mankiewicz's lost Batman movie.
Rachelle is happy to contribute to that conversation. She also offers a very short This Week in Winter Soldier segment. Also discussed: Batman Day, Spawn 2, the Chris Evans/Martin Shkreli feud, and this past week's comics!
Rachelle and Dave are visited by J.Bone, who is not only an amazing artist and cartoonist, but also a genuinely awesome guy. Lots of topics are covered, including Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Captain America: Civil War, Supergirl #1, Glitterbomb #1, Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, James Buchanan Barnes, and, um, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves? Also, Dave is interested in seeing some Captain America/Warriors Coney Island fanfic.
They also play a super hero game devised by Rachelle's son, Mitchell. It's...challenging.
Dave and Rachelle wrap up the Living Between Wednesdays summer book club this week with Darwyn Cooke's perfect love letter to DC Comics, The New Frontier.
Also in this episode: Rachelle celebrated her birthday by buying the digital download of Civil War and watching it, the Harvey Award winners and Shuster Award nominees are discussed, Deathstroke will be facing off against Batfleck, and Rachelle has a crush on Chief Hopper from Stranger Things.
